José Cura

José Cura is a director, composer and opera singer who was born in Rosario, Argentina on December 5, 1962.

He is globally acclaimed for his intense and original interpretations of characters in opera, especially Verdi's Otello and Saint-Saëns Samson and their unconventional and innovative concert performances, José Cura is the first artist to have sung and directed simultaneously (both in concert and on recordings) and the first to combine performances of song and symphony in a concert format "half and half."

Cura made operatic history when, after directing Cavalleria Rusticana, came on stage to sing Canio in Pagliacci at the Hamburg Opera in February 2003. Compelling actor and charismatic stage performer, Cura has appeared on numerous television broadcasts of opera and concert halls worldwide.

Endowed with a rich tenor voice and polished and fascinating stage presence, José Cura has thrilled audiences from his appearance on the international music scene. His intelligent, insightful and sometimes controversial but always intense and unforgettable performances, we have assumed to be regular name on the marquee of the world's most prestigiousJose Cura theaters, including Metropolitan Opera, Royal Opera House, Vienna State Opera, Grand Theatre Liceu, Zurich Opera House and Teatro alla Scala.

In 2007 José Cura approached the stage direction by presenting the world premiere of La commedia è finite, a meta-spectacle of opera, prose and dance to what has also made the scenery. After the great success, continues his career as a director and set designer debuting Un ballo in maschera at Verdi Opera Theatre of Cologne (2008) after which take the stage three of the cornerstones of his repertoire: the expected Samson et Dalila for 2010, Puccini's Triptych for the Opera de Nancy and the diptych Cavalleria Rusticana / Pagliacci for 2011.

But Cura is much more than a superstar. He is a skilled composer and a brilliant interpreter a natural showman determined to make the best music to engage, entertain and educate.
