Armin van Buuren is a DJ / producer of trance music including subgenres of electronic music. According to the ranking compiled by DJ Magazine, he has been named World’s First DJ in 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2012, being therefore the only DJ so far in getting this award for four consecutive times and five times in total.

Armin van Buuren has an important radio show called “A State of Trance” which has more than 20 million weekly listeners in more than 26 countries, making it one of the most listened radioshows in the world.

His album “Imagine”, released in 2008, ranked number one in the Dutch album chart, making it the first time a dance music artist gets that place in the Dutch charts. He is currently ranking on the third position in the survey conducted in 2014 by the magazine DJ Mag.

Van Buuren was fascinated by music from an early age. This perhaps is explained by the fact that his father listened to Christian music. Besides music, Armin became interested in technology and computing. Very independent at an early age, at fourteen he bought his first mixer, he borrowed a synthesizer from his father, and began producing music.

As a teenager, Armin went to school on his bicycle and took advantage of these trips to listen to music with headphones. Armin, at that time, listened to Jean-Michel Jarre and Ben Liebrand. Armin sent a demo of one of his songs to Ben Liebrand and as a result Liebrand liked it. Shortly after, Ben and Armin began to produce and mix together.

Armin's interest for creating mixes kept increasing and he began working as a DJ in a nightclub in Leiden called Nexus.

In 1995 he graduated from school and enrolled in a college to study Law. At the same time, he moved all his equipment from his room to a production studio.

It was in this new "office" that Van Buuren produced the hits "Touch Me" and "Communication". Armin is not limited to one musical style and, therefore, each of his subsequent productions had, somewhat, a different style to the first; consequently Van Buuren said: "One should not become a prisoner of his own style." He describes his style as euphoric, animator, melodic and energetic.

Armin has been a very ambitious person, who has studied and has been a DJ at the same time. The musician has said that the only way to do something is if one likes doing it. He said that his greatest aspiration was to "do what he likes and have fun as much as possible while doing so."

Armin van Buuren has recently worked hard on his DJ career and has started to give live performances several times a week. Armin has always shown appreciation for his fans, he has even said that, for a DJ, the most important are his fans and, therefore, it is not uncommon to see him signing autographs for his fans on vinyl, flyers, shirts, body parts or mobile phones.
