PISO 21

Piso 21 is a Colombian band that has managed to establish itself as one of the most influential groups in Latin pop and contemporary urban pop. Originally from Medellín, a city that is the birthplace of many talents in the urban genre, the group was formed in 2007 with a fresh, melodic, and emotional proposal, which over time evolved to position them on the main popularity lists in Latin America, the United States, and Europe.
The band’s name comes from a creative space: the 21st floor of a building in Medellín, where the original members—David Escobar (Dim), Juan David Huertas (El Profe), Pablo Mejía (Pablito), and Juan David Castaño (El Llane)—began to meet to compose, rehearse, and shape a project that fuses pop, R&B, reggae, and later, urban sounds.
Their first album, Piso 21 (2012), made them known in Colombia, with songs like “Vagones vacíos” and “Te vi,” which showed a pop and romantic sensibility, with outstanding vocal harmonies. However, it was with the release of “Me llamas” in 2016 (and its subsequent remix with Maluma) that their music made the international leap. From then on, Piso 21 consolidated its presence as one of the most versatile and popular urban pop bands.
The group’s formula is distinguished by its balance between the melodic and the rhythmic, the commercial and the emotional. Themes such as “Déjala que vuelva” (with Manuel Turizo), “Besándote,” “Te amo” (with Paulo Londra), and “La vida sin ti” have become resounding successes, connecting with a young and diverse audience that values both the romantic lyrics and the modern aesthetic of their productions.
Throughout their career, Piso 21 has collaborated with renowned artists such as Maluma, Nicky Jam, Christian Nodal, Myke Towers, Manuel Turizo, Black Eyed Peas, and Anne-Marie, demonstrating a unique ability to adapt to different styles without losing their melodic identity.
In 2019, El Llane announced his departure from the group to begin his career as a soloist, being replaced by Lorduy (David Lorduy Hernández), who brought a new energy to the group and contributed to maintaining its relevance in the changing Latin music scene. The incorporation of Lorduy marked a new stage with more urban sounds, without neglecting the pop essence that has been the group’s hallmark.
Their third studio album, Ubuntu (2018), showed an artistic maturity and a more global proposal, while with El Amor en los Tiempos del Perreo (2021), the group opted for a more daring and contemporary vision, reinforcing their connection with the young and urban public.
Piso 21 has performed on the most important stages in Latin America and the United States, in addition to participating in international festivals and doing their own tours. They have been nominated and awarded in awards such as the Latin Grammy, Premios Lo Nuestro, Billboard Latin Music Awards, and MTV MIAW, consolidating their place in the Latin scene.
Today, Piso 21 continues to be a reference for urban pop in Spanish: a group that has known how to evolve with the times, reinvent itself without losing its essence, and remain current through honest compositions, catchy rhythms, and a solid visual proposal.
From Medellín to the world, Piso 21 represents the collaborative, creative, and resilient spirit of contemporary Latin music.
