MANÁ

MANÁ

Maná is one of the most influential and successful Spanish rock bands of all time. Originally from Guadalajara, Jalisco (Mexico), the group was officially formed in 1986, although its history dates back to the early 80s under the name “Sombrero Verde”. Founded by Fher Olvera (vocals and guitar), along with musicians Juan Calleros (bass), Alex González (drums) and later Sergio Vallín (guitar), Maná has developed a solid career that has transcended generations and borders.

Their musical proposal combines rock with elements of pop, reggae, funk, ballad and Latin music, resulting in a distinctive style that connects with very diverse audiences. With lyrics that address both social issues and love, heartbreak and environmental awareness, the group has managed to maintain a balance between emotional content and social commitment. This mixture has been key to their international projection.

The massive success came with their second studio album, ¿Dónde jugarán los niños? (1992), which became one of the best-selling albums in the history of Spanish rock, surpassing 10 million copies worldwide. Songs like “Vivir sin aire”, “De pies a cabeza”, “Oye mi amor” and “Te lloré un río” became anthems that consolidated their reputation as leaders of the genre in Latin America and the United States.

Throughout their career, Maná has released more than 10 studio albums, including emblematic titles such as Cuando los ángeles lloran (1995), Sueños líquidos (1997),

Revolución de amor (2002) and Drama y luz (2011). These albums were not only commercial successes, but also recognized by critics for their musical quality, production and lyrics. The band has demonstrated a great evolution in sound and narrative, adapting to new times without renouncing its essence.

One of the most characteristic elements of Maná is the unmistakable voice of Fher Olvera, as well as the powerful rhythmic base built by Alex González on drums. The incorporation of Sergio Vallín in 1994 brought sophistication and technique to the guitars, consolidating the mature and professional sound that distinguishes them.

Maná has been recognized with numerous awards throughout their career, including several Latin Grammys, Billboard Awards, MTV Latin America, Premios Lo Nuestro, as well as the prestigious Person of the Year award given by the Latin Recording Academy. In addition, they have been the first Spanish rock band to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Beyond music, the group has shown a constant commitment to social and environmental causes. In 1995 they founded the ecological organization Selva Negra, with which they have promoted conservation, environmental education and sustainable development projects in various regions of Mexico and Latin America. This solidarity facet has strengthened their connection with the public and has consolidated their image as conscious and committed artists.

Maná has made extensive tours throughout the American continent, Europe and Asia, filling stadiums and auditoriums in multiple countries. Their ability to maintain a loyal fan base for decades, added to the incorporation of new generations, positions them as one of the most relevant groups in the Spanish music scene.

With more than 40 years of artistic career, Maná represents the perfect fusion between passion, talent and message. Their musical legacy continues to grow, being an indisputable reference for Latin rock and an inspiration for new generations of musicians.
