KANY GARCIA

Kany García, born Encarnita García de Jesús on September 25, 1982, in Toa Baja, Puerto Rico, is one of the most prominent singer-songwriters in contemporary Spanish-language music. Her unique style, which fuses pop, ballad, folk, and Latin rhythms, along with honest and emotional lyrics, has established her as one of the most authentic and respected voices in the Latin American music scene.
From an early age, Kany showed an inclination for music. She studied at the Conservatory of Music of Puerto Rico and trained as a classical guitarist, which is reflected in the compositional depth of her songs. Her professional career took off in 2007 with the release of her debut album Cualquier día, which earned her critical acclaim and four Latin Grammy nominations, of which she won two: Best New Artist and Best Female Pop Album. This first work included themes such as “Hoy ya
me voy”, “Estigma de amor” and “¿Qué nos pasó?”, which set the tone for her proposal: emotional, reflective and close.
Throughout her career, Kany García has released multiple albums, including Boleto de entrada (2009), Kany García (2012), Limonada (2016), Contra el viento (2019) and El amor que merecemos (2022). Her music has evolved maintaining an artistic coherence based on intimate lyrics, messages of empowerment and arrangements that balance the acoustic with the contemporary. In many of her compositions she explores themes such as self-love, resilience, identity, human relationships and social justice, which has earned her a deep connection with a diverse and loyal audience.
In addition to her career as a performer, Kany is a prolific composer for other artists. She has written songs for renowned figures such as Jennifer Lopez, Ha*Ash, Chayanne and Pandora, consolidating her reputation as one of the best lyricists of her generation. Her ability to create honest lyrics, with an emotionally complex but accessible narrative, has been one of the pillars of her success.
Over the years she has been recognized with multiple awards, including Latin Grammys, Billboard Latin Music Awards and Premios Lo Nuestro. She has also been awarded for her commitment to the LGBTQ+ community, women’s rights and other social causes that are part of her public identity. Kany has become an influential figure not only within the music industry, but also as an active voice on issues of inclusion, equality and diversity.
One of the most valued aspects of her work is the coherence between her artistic discourse and her personal life. Openly lesbian, she has addressed issues of gender identity and sexual orientation from a perspective free of labels, positioning herself as a reference of visibility in Latin music. This authenticity, far from being a strategy, has been a constant in her way of building her career and communicating with her followers.
Kany García has toured throughout Latin America, the United States and Spain, performing in emblematic venues and collaborating with artists such as Natalia Lafourcade, Mon Laferte, Carlos Vives, Alejandro Sanz and Residente, among others. Her versatility allows her to move naturally between the intimate and the massive, always retaining her own stamp.
With more than 15 years of experience, Kany continues to be an indispensable voice within pop in Spanish. Her ability to combine quality music with meaningful content positions her as one of the most complete, coherent and admired artists on the current scene.
