They met in 1996 while studying at University College in London. All four were united his passion for music and quickly became good friends. At first, Chris composed songs with Jonny. When Guy heard those issues he wanted to join the band as bassist. And Will, who wanted as much or more belong to the band, had to change the bass and drums.

Two years after its creation, Coldplay released their first recording, paid out of pocket. This is an EP entitled “Safety”, which released 500 copies to hand out to friends and send them to record labels as a way to make themselves known.

In April 1999, Coldplay released the single “Brothers & Sisters” with the label Fierce Panda. Because of this, the magazine New Musical Express Coldplay chose as one of the best bands of 1999. After being featured by various media as one of the most promising bands, Coldplay signed with Parlophone. The first fruit of this union was “The Blue Room”, a five-song mini-albums, released in October 1999.

In 2000, Coldplay released “Parachutes,” his first album. The album gets a notable success in Europe and less in the U.S.. The first single from “Parachutes” was the song “Shiver”, which was followed by “Yellow”, which came to be at No. 4 on the UK charts. Coldplay in 2002 won the Grammy for Best Alternative Album.

In August 2002 Coldplay album reissued, this time with the title “A Rush of Blood to the Head”, which was considered by many as the band’s musical maturation. The album received excellent reviews and, among the issues to highlight are “In My Place”, “The Scientist” and “ClColdplayocks.” “A Rush Of Blood To The Head” Coldplay won two Grammy awards in 2003 and another in 2004.

After a long tour over a year, in 2003, Coldplay released “Live 2003” CD and DVD recorded live at a concert in Sydney, Australia.

In 2004, lead singer, Chris Martin, had a daughter with actress Gwyneth Paltrow. This fact inspired the band to issue a new album “X & Y”, appeared in May 2005.
