CARLA MORRISON

Carla Morrison, born on July 19, 1986, in Tecate, Baja California, is a Mexican singer, songwriter, and producer recognized for her introspective style, delicate voice, and her ability to create emotional landscapes through music. Her proposal is situated within alternative pop and singer-songwriter genres, incorporating elements of folk, soul, and ambient electronic music, with lyrics full of sensitivity, vulnerability, and authenticity.
Her musical career began independently in 2008 with the release of her first EP, Aprendiendo a aprender (Learning to Learn), followed by Mientras tú dormías (While You Slept) in 2010, produced by Natalia Lafourcade. These early productions allowed her to position herself within the Latin American alternative music circuit, gaining a loyal audience thanks to her intimate, poetic, and emotional approach. Critics appreciated from the beginning the honesty of her lyrics and the instrumental simplicity that characterizes her style.
In 2012, she released her first full-length album, Déjenme llorar (Let Me Cry), which represented a turning point in her career. This work not only gave her international recognition but also earned her two Latin Grammy awards: one for Best Alternative Music Album and another for Best Alternative Song with the title track of the album. Déjenme llorar included songs like “Eres tú” (It’s You), “Hasta la piel” (To the Skin), and
“Compartir” (Share), which quickly became references of alternative pop in Spanish.
Over time, Carla Morrison has demonstrated a marked artistic evolution. Her second album, Amor supremo (Supreme Love) (2015), introduced more elaborate production elements and a more expansive sonic aesthetic, without losing the emotional charge that characterizes her. In this project, she addressed themes such as unconditional love, spirituality, loss, and personal identity, reaffirming her place as one of the most influential female voices in independent pop in Spanish.
After a period of personal and professional introspection, she moved to Paris and then to Los Angeles, where she began a process of artistic renewal. In 2022, she released El renacimiento (The Rebirth), an album that marks a transformation in her sound and lyrical style, including influences from R&B, synth-pop, and electronic music. This album reflects a new chapter in her life, addressing themes such as mental health, empowerment, self-healing, and emotional reconnection from a mature and luminous perspective.
Throughout her career, Carla has collaborated with artists such as Jorge Drexler, Ricky Martin, J Balvin, Lila Downs, Juan Gabriel, Natalia Lafourcade and Carla Morrison has been included in important international festivals such as Coachella, Vive Latino and Lollapalooza, consolidating her presence on high-level stages in both America and Europe. She has also participated in soundtracks, documentaries, and artistic projects with a multidisciplinary approach.
In addition to her role as a performer and composer, Carla is an active voice on issues of emotional health, women’s rights, and diversity. Her public discourse has been aligned with a vision of artistic authenticity, expressive freedom, and emotional awareness, which has made her a reference for many young people who find in her music a space for identification and comfort.
