SONORE AL-ANDALUS

Sumi Jo

Sonore Al-Andalus is a show that has never been done before, as it combines Arabic and Spanish music from the times of Al-Andalus to the 20th century, fusing both cultures to offer a contemporary, elegant and classic-touch show.

Four women from four different countries make up the group;

Isabel Cañada: Spanish Soprano.

Crosby DeLaney: American Violinist.

Magdalena Wajdzik: Polish Pianist.

Inas Halal: Syrian Percussionist, and the first female percussionist in her country.

Although it has been recently released, since the project officially came to light on November 11, 2020, Sonore Al-Andalus has been of interest to various entities since its inception: For the search for ancient Arabic poetry, we have had the collaboration of the Spanish poet of Cordoban origin Rafael Luna García. For the composition of some of the works, since we did not have musical references for many of the pieces, given their antiquity, we have had the collaboration of the American composer Doctor Jonathan Barrett. For the recording of the first Videoclip and main theme of the group, the popular Arabic song of Andalusian origin “Lama Bada” has been made, directed by the Syrian Film Director and Choreographer Alaa Krimed. Sonore Al-Andalus premiered in Dubai on November 28 at Arselkal Avenue, opening for the event of the National Day of the United Arab Emirates.

The full show will premiere in January 2021 in Dubai and there will be 3 consecutive nights of the show. We are working in collaboration with various entities, including AC Cultura, for the possible performance of Sonore Al-Andalus at Dubai Expo 2020. NSO Symphony UAE has also shown its interest and has passed the information to be able to perform a show in Abu Dhabi for the 2021/2022 season.
