VITTORIO GRIGOLO

Vittorio Grigolo (born Arezzo, Italy, February 19, 1977) is an Italian lyrical tenor with performances in classic crossover. Born in Arezzo, he grew up in Rome, where he began his singing studies in the choir of the Sistine Chapel, of which he was a soloist.

He made his debut at age 13 as the shepherd of the third act of Tosca with Luciano Pavarotti, who called him ‘Il Pavarottino’. Due to his vocal conditions he was exempted from military service. At age 18 he joined the Wiener Staatsoper and at 23 he made his debut at La Scala in Milan. Grigolo sang The Barber of Seville, La traviata, Così fan tutte, Faust, and Tony in West Side Story.

His first solo album was called “In the hands of love”, a popular and classic album that he calls “Popera”, which broke sales records. His recent performances include Gianni Schicchi, Don Carlos and Lucia di Lammermoor, by Gaetano Donizetti, in Zurich. Highly popular in England, he sang at the Royal Albert Hall with Plácido Domingo and Kiri Te Kanawa, and on his debut at Covent Garden (June 2010) with Anna Netrebko at Manon de Massenet.
