Zendaya is a renowned actress and singer who first rose to fame in 2010 with her appearance on the Disney Channel series “Shake It Up.” She released her first album in 2013 and has appeared in various Disney Channel projects before appearing in big-budget feature films such as “Spider-Man: Homecoming,” “The Greatest Showman,” and her current project, Euphoria, an HBO series. She was part of the main cast of the series, starring as Rue Bennett, a high school girl in drug rehabilitation.

In addition to her early stage work, Zendaya had some early success as a model, working for companies such as Macy’s and Old Navy. For a Sears commercial, Zendaya performed as a backup dancer for Selena Gomez. She eventually decided to use only her first name professionally. “Zendaya” means “thank you” in the Shona language of Zimbabwe.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, she took the opportunity to direct a feature film called Malcolm & Marie, directed by Sam Levinson and John David Washington. The script was written in eight days and filmed in two weeks. Netflix acquired the rights to the film.

On September 20, 2020, she won the Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for her role in the HBO series Euphoria, playing Rue Bennett.

In 2021, she is expected to appear in two feature films: Dune, a science fiction film, in which she will play the role of Chani, and the sequel to Spider-Man: Far From Home, in which she will reprise her role as Michelle Jones “MJ.”
