PENÉLOPE CRUZ
Penelope Cruz Sanchez was born in Alcobendas, Madrid in April 28th 1974 and in our days she is one of the most international and recognized Spanish actresses.
She was the Oscar winner for her role in Vicky, Cristina Barcelona. Her film career includes several movies in Spanish and some lot of other in English, Italian and French. Several of these productions have reached an amazing success in Europe and America and have given the actress other awards, besides the Oscar, such as three Goya Awards, one BAFTA British Award, the Italian Award David De Donatello.
Penelope Cruz is the only Spanish actress who has reached a point of stability and continuity in Hollywood. In 2006 she was the first Spanish actress candidate to an Academy Award and for a Golden Globe in the category of best female interpreter for her role in the Spanish movie “Volver”, directed by Spanish filmmaker Pedro Almodovar.
In that occasion she did not win the award but in 2008 she repeited the nomination and this time she succeeded: she became the first Spanish actress in winning the Oscar by Woody Allen’s movie (Vicky Cristina Barcelona).
With that movie she also won the BAFTA Award and her third Goya and was nominated to a Golden Globe and to the Screen Actors Guild. Penelope was nominated for an Oscar again for best actress in 2009 for her role in Nine.
