ANTONIO BANDERAS

Antonio Banderas or José Antonio Domínguez Banderas was born in Málaga (Spain) in August 10th, 1960. He started in the acting world in the early 80s in Spain, having studied Cinematography Arts in “Teatro Escuela ARA” directed by Amparo Rubi-Argüelles.

He later moved to Madrid where he acted in small plays in the “Movida Madrileña” era, catching Pedro Almodóvar’s attention whom with he worked in his first movies “Atame”, “Matador”, “Laberinto De Pasiones”, “La Ley Del Deseo” and “Mujeres Al Borde De Un Ataque De Nervios”. This last one was nominated as the first Spanish movie to the Oscars, opening a cultural bridge to all the Spanish actors to jump into the Hollywood Industry.

He is married with also actress Melanie Griffith (second marriage) and they have a daughter. In the 90s, Banderas met Madonna and they made the documentary film “Truth or Dare” which led him later to act in the movie “Evita” with her (Oscar winner). He later moved to United States to find an evolution as an actor, where he debuted with Armand Assante in “Los Reyes Del Mambo” having to learn the scripts by heart and phonetically because he did not know the english language yet.

After that he worked with great names in the movie industry like Tom Hanks in “Philadelphia” which won 2 Oscar awards giving him a great reputation an popularity besides working with Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt in “Interview with a Vampire”. Antonio was the first spanish actor nominated to the Golden Globes, Emmys and Tony awards.

Twenty years later he acted in a Spanish film “La Piel Que Habito” (which won several Goya Awards) because most of the works he was offered came from United States. Among other Hollywood productions he participated in, we can find: “Miami Rhapsody”, “Never Talk To Strangers”, “Four Rooms”, “Evita”, “Desperado” (in which he debuted as a Singer with the film song), “Assasins”, “The Mask Of Zorro”, “Spy Kids”, “The Body”, “Original Sin” and “Femme Fatale” among others.

Another works done by Banderas, finding a total success, we highlight the personification of the cartoon “Cat” in the movie “Shrek” (english and spanish), “The Legend Of Zorro”, “Puss In Boots” (with Salma Hayek), “The Code” and “You Will Meet A Tall Dark Stranger“. He has also worked as a producer and director of films like “Crazy In Alabama” and “El Camino De Los Ingleses”
