ABRAHAM OLANO

Abraham Olano Manzano was born in Anoeta, Guipúzcoa, on January 22, 1970. He has been one of the most important and recognized Spanish cyclists. He competed professionally between 1992 and 2002 and his successes are numerous. He was world champion both in route (1995) and in time trial (1998), being the first male cyclist in history to achieve it.

He won the Vuelta a España in 1998 and finished second in 1995. In the Giro d’Italia, he climbed twice to the podium in 1996 and 2001. He also qualified three times in the top ten of the Tour de France. In total he won six stage victories in the Vuelta and one in the Tour, all of them in the time trial mode.

Olano was also a double champion of Spain both on the road and in the time trial (1994), Olympic silver medal in the time trial (Atlanta 1996) and winner of several laps in stages of a week, including the Tour de Romandía (1996) and the Tirreno Adriatico (2000).

He is currently the technical director of the Vuelta a España since 2004 and also attends various events in support of basic cycling.
