Pau Gasol Sáez (Barcelona, July 6, 1980) 1 2 is a professional Spanish basketball player, who belongs to the staff of the San Antonio Spurs of the NBA. He became the second Spaniard to play in the NBA after Fernando Martin, being the first to be chosen to play an NBA All-Star Game (Houston 2006), to qualify for the playoffs (with Memphis Grizzlies in 2003-04) , and in getting the NBA championship (twice with Los Angeles Lakers in 2008-09 and 2009-10). In the 2014-2015 season Pau Gasol broke another record with his brother Marc Gasol, being the first brothers to start in an all-star. Pau added his fifth participation in the game of the stars of the NBA.

He was selected in the third position of the NBA Draft of 2001 by Atlanta Hawks, but his rights were transferred to Memphis Grizzlies where he played six seasons and a half. When leaving the Grizzlies he had the franchise records of most points scored in total, games played, minutes played, field goals scored and attempted, free throws scored and attempted, defensive rebounds, offensive rebounds, total rebounds, blocks and losses.4 On February 3, 2008, Gasol was transferred to the Los Angeles Lakers by Kwame Brown (number 1 of the 2001 draft), Javaris Crittenton and Aaron McKie, two first rounds of the 2008 and 2010 drafts and the rights the Lakers had over his brother Marc Gasol.

On May 13, 2009 was chosen for the first time in his career in an ideal quintet of the NBA, specifically in the third. In 2010, he was elected for the second time for this denomination, and in 2011 and 2015 he was chosen in the second quintet.

He is one of only four players in the history of the NBA with at least 20,000 points, 10,000 rebounds, 3,500 assists and 1,800 accumulated plugs during the regular season, along with Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Tim Duncan and Kevin Garnett.

On September 7, 2017 he became the top scorer in the history of Eurobasket, after achieving a triple in the second quarter of his Eurobasket game against Hungary, surpassing the previous record of 1,104 points that until then had the French Tony Parker.
