Josemi Carmona

Josemi CarmonaJosemi Carmona was born in Madrid in 1971 in a family of flamenco tradition. He is the son of the guitarist and the dancer Pepe Habichuela and Amparo Niño.

Josemi learned to talk and play almost at once. With only three years he first grabbed a guitar, he played at age of nine for the first time on stage at the Café Silverio, with twelve played in the World Guitar Festival on the island of Martinique, he formed with his father part of the show "Flamenco puro" in the U.S. where very important flamenco artists were involved such as Farruco, Fernanda de Utrera, Güito and Chocolate among others.

At fourteen he joined Ketama, filling the gap that Ray Heredia left. Ketama's story is already part of the history of music in Spain; without doubt, one of the most influential and revolutionary formations that have existed in our music scene.

True inventors of a new sound imitated by many undisputed leaders of the so called "New Flamenco", the group of Juan, Antonio and Jose Miguel Carmona released 11 original albums and 3 compilation, paraded their music around the world and showed that flamenco can fellowship with the Jazz, with the salsa, bossanova, rai…, even with the Mandinga music! They are guaranteed with the more than the million albums sold throughout their career. Alongside his career with Ketama, Jose Miguel Carmona has continued to collaborate on many discs (Paco de Lucia, Miguel Bose, Rosario, Alejandro Sanz, Nitin Sawhney, Jorge Pardo etc.) and produced records to Nina Pastori, La Barberie of South, etc. Along with Carlos Benavent has edited "Sumando", bassist and guitarist joined in a unique fusion of sounds.

He has now released his album "Las Pequeñas Cosas" where he appreciates his instrumental and stylistic versatility, combining flamenco guitar, acoustic and mandolin. Beside him is a cadre of luxury musicians such as Paco de Lucia, Dave Holland, Jorge Drexler and Niña Pastori, among others.
