Fonsi Nieto

Fonsi NietoAlfonso Gonzalez Nieto, known as Fonsi Nieto (Madrid, December 2, 1978) is a retired Spanish motorcycle racer, nephew of one of the greatest riders in history, Angel Nieto.

He started in the pocket bikes 125cc and then in 1995, winning the Junior Championship in Spain. The next three years he won the national title in 125cc and 250cc and made his debut in the 125cc GP at Jerez as a wildcard.

Luis D. impressed Antin with his progress and in 1999 gave him a chance in 250cc. where Fonsi showed his courage in the next two seasons. His blast came in 2001 when he won two podium finishes and finished 5th in the World Cup as part of the Valencia Circuit Aspar team.

The Spaniard established his reputation fighting with Marco Melandri for the 250cc title in 2002 ranking as number two in the World Championship.

For the 2005 season decided to change and take the World Superbike Championship riding a Ducati 999RS with private team Caracchi Ducati.
In 2006 changed the official team Kawasaki, in getting a podium finish in 10th position in 2007, with the same team obtained a pole position and a podium and ended 12th in the drivers' and in 2008 changed the team Suzuki with getting their first win at the Losail circuit in Qatar.

In 2010 he returned to the World of Speed ​​in the new Moto2 team with Moriwaki Holiday Gym - G22, finishing 18th in the Championship.

In February 2011 he announced his retirement as a result of the aftermath of his left foot injury, a consequence of serious accident in practice for the Indianapolis Grand Prix 2010.
Currently Disc Jockey in several clubs in Spain, has played at clubs like Tito's (Palma), Fabrik (Madrid) and Privilege (Ibiza) among others.
